2 Person Sauna Dimensions: What Size Do You Need?

October 02, 2026 3 min read

Short answer: a typical 2-person infrared sauna measures about 48" wide × 42" deep × 75" tall on the outside. Compact 1–2 person models run smaller — around 39" × 36" × 75". Plan for a few inches of clearance on every side, a standard 120V outlet nearby, and a path wide enough to carry the panels in. Here's the full size guide.

Typical 2 person sauna dimensions

Across the 2-person models we carry, exterior dimensions fall into two groups:

  • Standard 2-person: roughly 46–50" wide × 40–42" deep × 74–75" tall. This is the most common footprint — a genuine two-adult bench with room to sit comfortably.
  • Compact 1–2 person: roughly 39" wide × 36" deep × 75–77" tall. Marketed as 1–2 person; cozy for two adults, spacious for one.

Height is the least variable dimension — nearly every model stands 74–77" tall, which clears a standard 8-foot ceiling with room to spare. Width and depth are where models differ most. Browse 2-person saunas →

Interior vs exterior: which number matters?

Manufacturers list exterior dimensions (the full footprint of the assembled cabin) and sometimes interior dimensions (the usable space inside). For planning your room, use the exterior numbers — that's what has to fit through your door and sit on your floor. For comfort, the interior bench matters: a standard 2-person cabin gives each bather roughly 24" of bench width, about the same as an economy airline seat. If you're both broad-shouldered, sit in a floor model first or size up to a 3-person cabin. 3-person saunas →

How much floor space do you actually need?

The sauna's footprint is only the start. Add:

  • Clearance: leave a few inches of air gap on the sides, back, and top for ventilation and heat dissipation. Don't wedge the cabin tight into a corner.
  • Door swing: most cabins have a glass front door that swings outward — allow ~24" of clear space in front.
  • Electrical: nearly all 2-person infrared saunas plug into a standard 120V/20A outlet. Make sure one is within reach of the power cord; avoid extension cords for permanent installs.

Realistic total: a standard 2-person cabin (48" × 42") wants a floor area of roughly 5 × 5 feet once clearances and door swing are counted. A spare bedroom corner, a large bathroom, a finished basement nook, or a home gym all work. Full buying guide →

Will it fit through your door?

Yes — almost certainly. Infrared saunas ship flat-packed as individual wall, bench, and roof panels, not as one assembled box. Panels slide through standard 30–32" interior doorways and around normal hallway corners. The one thing to check is tight stairwell turns in older homes: measure your narrowest turn, not just the door. Assembly takes two adults about an hour with basic tools, and the cabin can be built in the room where it will live — you never need to move it assembled.
